Northern Irish Board

The Northern Irish Board acts as the link between College fellows and members in the Province and the College. It also represents anaesthetists within the wider Northern Ireland health and social care structure, including liaising with fellow Royal Colleges and senior decision makers.

Anaesthetists in Training Representative Group (ATRG)

The Anaesthetists in Training Representative Group (ATRG) was formed in July 2014 and consists of one trainee representative from each School of Anaesthesia along with co-opted members from the Faculties of Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Medicine.

Anaesthetists in Training (AiT) Committee

The Anaesthetists in Training Committee consists of two trainee members of Council, four members elected from the Anaesthetist in Training Representative Group and co-opted members.

Anaesthetics – risks and side effects – Chest infection
This leaflet explains why there is a risk that you may develop a chest infection after an operation. A general anaesthetic can affect the normal way that phlegm is moved from the lungs. Pain from the operation may also make it more difficult to cough or breathe deeply, which means there is a higher risk of chest infection.
