Charter, Ordinances and Regulations
The powers of the Royal College of Anaesthetists are laid out in the Royal Charter, Ordinances and Regulations.
Charter
The Charter itself sets out the aims and powers of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and establishes its basic constitution. Only the King in Council can amend the Royal Charter, on the recommendation of the College, following an annual or emergency general meeting.
Ordinances
The Ordinances, which are scheduled to the Charter, lay down more detailed rules governing the way in which the College functions and runs its activities. Only the Privy Council can amend the Ordinances on recommendation of the college, following an annual or emergency general meeting.
Regulations
Matters of greater detail, relating to many aspects of the administration of the College are set out in the Regulations. The Board of Trustees can amend the regulations, after seeking advice from Council.
