Policy

Advocating for high quality patient care

Our Policy and Public Affairs team campaigns to ensure the best quality patient care in partnership with local and national governments.

Patients deserve an NHS where they receive safe, effective anaesthesia and pain relief when they need it. This is whether they are having an operation, undergoing childbirth, in A&E, or in countless other healthcare settings. A properly staffed, well-supported and valued anaesthetic workforce is vital – and is what we strive to make the Government and NHS deliver.

We champion the vital role of anaesthesia in patient care by:

  • ensuring the anaesthetic voice is at the heart of policymaking
  • engaging with key stakeholders and decision-makers
  • communicating the value of anaesthetists to medical and non-medical audiences
  • campaigning on the issues that matter to our members and patients.

Coalitions

We're proud to be working with a range of influential coalitions, which are invaluable in our collaborative work to advocate for local, national and international policy change.

The Alcohol Health Alliance UK is a coalition of over 60 organisations working together to promote evidence-based policies to reduce the harm caused by alcohol. Members of the AHA include medical royal colleges, charities, unions, treatment providers and other not-for-profit organisations.

The Centre for Perioperative Care is a partnership between health charities, patient groups, and several leading medical royal colleges, dedicated to the promotion, advancement and development of perioperative care. Perioperative care is the integrated, multidisciplinary care of patients from the moment surgery is contemplated, all the way through to full recovery.

The Inequalities in Health Alliance is a coalition of health organisations who have come together to campaign for a cross-government strategy to reduce health inequalities.

The Obesity Health Alliance  is a coalition of 65 health organisations working together to advocate for policies to improve population health and address obesity.
