QI and BJA Open

Publish your Quality Improvement study in BJA Open for free

Launched in 2022, BJA Open is the Open Access sister journal of BJA. Even though the journal is only in its 3rd year of publication it has achieved major milestones including indexing by PubMed Central and Scopus. An application to the Emerging Sources Citation Index has been submitted: if this is successful BJA Open will receive an Impact Factor.

BJA Open welcomes articles that describe quality improvement studies reporting new knowledge on how to improve healthcare where the findings are likely to be generalisable. The article format consists of the same headings as Original Research articles (Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion) but the contents of the sections should be as described in the Revised Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellence (SQUIRE 2.0) guideline. Further details on submission of articles to BJA Open can be found here.

As clinical researchers may not have access to funds to cover the cost of the Article Processing Charge (APC) normally required by BJA Open, a number of APC waivers are available for fellows of the RCoA.

Full details of the waiver scheme can be obtained by emailing the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Phil Hopkins (p.m.hopkins@leeds.ac.uk).
