Anaesthesia is the largest single hospital specialty in the NHS. The RCoA is the professional body responsible for the specialty throughout the UK, and it ensures the quality of patient care through the maintenance of standards in anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine.
On successful completion of the Structured Oral Examination (SOE), candidates are awarded the fellowship by examination of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and may use the letters FRCA after their name.

Every ACSA standard is based on recommendations from the College’s Guidelines for the Provision of Anaesthetic Services (GPAS). You can freely register on the ACSA online portal to access a self-assessment tool to conduct your gap analysis.
