Every NHS doctor should have an attitude of lifelong learning and be on a journey of continuous professional development as per the General Medical Council’s (GMC’s) Good Medical Practice.
This article aims to encourage non-autonomous anaesthetists to embark on a career-progression journey aiming for GMC specialist registration (SR). Locally employed doctors can choose the portfolio pathway (PP) to reach this destination.
If you plan to drive to a destination, you enter it on your satnav so that it suggests a few routes and informs you about the time taken for each of them. The main route to SR is through the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). The PP route to SR is chosen less frequently.
