Personal Activity and Personal Reflection for LLP users
Personal Activity and Personal Reflection
These forms on the Lifelong Learning Platform (LLP) allow anaesthetists in training to record and evidence learning and progression. This information can be reviewed by supervisors and is incorporated into assessments such as the Educational Supervisor’s Structured Report (ESSR).
Personal Activity
The Personal Activity form enables trainees to record learning experiences and upload evidence. Activities can be linked to key capabilities in the curriculum, in the same way as Supervised Learning Events (SLEs). However, unlike SLEs, Personal Activities do not require assessor approval.
This form can be used to capture learning from a wide range of activities, including:
- Attending teaching sessions
- Participating in educational meetings
- Reading journal articles or guidelines
- Reviewing clinical cases or guidelines independently
Activity Type Selection
When completing a Personal Activity form, you must select an appropriate Activity Type from the dropdown menu. This selection determines whether the activity appears in relevant sections of the ESSR or other LLP forms.
Activity Type | Where it pulls through |
ARCP documents / Form R | ESSR - Form R section |
Supervisory meeting | ESSR - Supervisory meeting section |
Simulation Training | IAC and IACOA – Simulation activities section |
Tip: Selecting the correct Activity Type ensures that your evidence is visible to assessors and appears in the appropriate sections of your ESSR or certificate milestones.
Personal Reflection
The Personal Reflection form allows anaesthetists in training to reflect on their experiences and learning during training. Reflections may be based on clinical experiences that do not form part of a supervised event, but which still contribute meaningfully to personal and professional development.
Reflective practice:
- Supports professional growth and insight
- Enhances patient care
- Promotes wellbeing
- Is a core part of Good Medical Practice
Linking Reflections
Personal Reflections should be linked to a Personal Activity, as only Personal Activities appear in the ESSR. To do this:
- Create a Personal Activity
- Add a Reflection related to that activity within the form
This ensures your reflective learning is recorded and visible for review during your assessments.
The following video was presented by Aviva Spiers in 2024 and provides a walkthrough of how to use the Personal Activity and Personal Reflection forms on the LLP.
FAQ
Ensure your Personal Activity entry includes an end date — without it, the activity will not be pulled into your ESSR. This is a common oversight, as end dates are optional when adding the activity.
To fix this:
- Click Edit Activity.
- Add an end date.
- Refresh your ESSR to check if the activity appears.
If the activity still doesn’t show after adding an end date, you’ll need to create a new ESSR for it to be included.
