National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NAPOC)
National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NAPOC)
NAPOC is a new national clinical audit aiming to reduce unwarranted variation in the perioperative pathway, leading to improvements in patient experience and outcomes.
The National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NAPOC) is a newly commissioned national audit which is being established to assess the quality and safety of perioperative services—encompassing pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care—across NHS settings in England and Jersey.
What is NAPOC?
The Royal College of Anaesthetists Centre for Research and Improvement (RCoA-CR&I) are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the commission to develop and run the National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NAPOC).
NAPOC is part of the National Clinical Audit and Patient Outcomes Programme (NCAPOP), overseen by the Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) and funded by NHS England.
The programme will initially be delivered for NHS-funded care in England and publicly funded care in Jersey for a three year period. It has a start date of 1st October 2025.
NAPOC will work closely alongside the Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC) and other stakeholders.
VACANCY
The Royal College of Anaesthetists Centre for Research and Improvement (RCoA-CR&I) are seeking to appoint two clinical leads for the newly commissioned National Clinical Audit of Perioperative Care (NAPOC).
The two appointed clinical co-leads will work together to lead this new audit. We are seeking to appoint one anaesthetic lead and one surgical lead.
This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader to work on this national audit and to help shape national practice, working at the forefront of perioperative care to improve outcomes and experiences for patients.
Role
The successful candidates will provide strategic and clinical leadership to deliver and develop the audit projects aims. This includes co-chairing project team meetings, engaging with national bodies and collaborating with other stakeholders to maximise the audit’s impact, working alongside the Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC), the Audit Strategic Oversight Board (SOB) and Audit Clinical Reference Group (CRG).
