Having completed his house officer posts in the north-east of England Dr Dodman returned to his roots and undertook a three year SHO rotation in anaesthesia working in Scarborough, York & Harrogate. He gained specialist experience at Birmingham Children’s Hospital before joining the West Yorkshire registrar rotation in 2001. Training complete he spent just over a year as an attending anesthesiologist at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St Louis, Missouri before appointment as consultant anaesthetist & intensivist at Pinderfields General Hospital, Wakefield in 2007. His illness forced final retirement in 2017.

Professional interests and activities

A skilled clinician, his non-clinical focus was as an educator & mentor for trainees, serving as college tutor, training programme director in the Yorkshire School, and becoming a fitness to practice panel advisor for the GMC – rapid progress for one of his age. He continued to support training for as long as he could prior to his death.

Other biographical information

With his wife Joanne, a cardiac theatre nurse, he had three children, Mabel, Alice & Edward. He had boundless enthusiasm for a wide range of sports, especially Leeds Rhinos rugby league & Wolverhampton Wanderers soccer teams, and was active in attending matches, theatre & concerts with family and friends.
