Regulation for AAs now expected second half of 2024

The RCoA has received an updated timetable for Government's work on setting legislation that will guide reforms for all regulatory bodies. There has been a delay in the process, and we now expect regulation towards the end of 2024.

The legislation is crucial as that piece of work needs to be completed before the GMC - as the future regulator of Anaesthesia Associates and Physician Associates - can proceed with its plans to put that regulation into place.

The GMC is pressing ahead with its preparations for regulation at the same time as the Government continues its work on legislation. With all those processes aligned, it means the earliest that the GMC can put the regulation into place is the latter half of 2024.

The GMC's website sets out the timetable and also invites everyone with an interest in this area to sign up for their Community of Interest newsletter on regulation for AAs and PAs.
