RCoA response to racist and Islamophobic violence

Published: 06/08/2024

At the Royal College of Anaesthetists, we have been shocked and horrified by the recent racist and Islamophobic violence that has taken place in the UK in the past week, and we condemn it in the strongest terms.

Our hearts go out to our members, their colleagues across the NHS, their families and communities. Some of them have been the target of abuse and violence themselves and many more will have experienced the fear that this totally unacceptable abuse can instil.

Our Fellows, members and employees come from many different backgrounds and this diversity strengthens our College and our specialty. Without this diversity our NHS would not function. We value all our members, and we are grateful for the enormous contribution they make to the NHS and the anaesthetic community.

We understand that some members in particular will be feeling the impact. We encourage you to report any incidents of abuse or violence to the police and to seek support if you need it. Our wellbeing hub includes a list of support services available to you.
