Nominations for election to Council are open

Published: 15/09/2025

Have you considered standing for election to College Council? We have six vacancies for consultants and one vacancy for an anaesthetist in training.

If you’re eligible and interested in nominating yourself, please have a look at the role description, eligibility and application information

Being a member of Council is an excellent opportunity to influence the College’s professional policy and represent your peers at all stages of their working lives. The role carries significant responsibility and can be demanding, but our Council members describe it as a very productive and rewarding experience.

What do Council members do?

As a Council member you will contribute to all aspects of our work across education, training, research and policy. You will help to develop, improve and implement work to deliver our 2022–2027 strategy, serve on internal boards and committees, represent the College externally and provide leadership while being open and responsive to our members.

How do I nominate myself?

To nominate yourself for election, please submit a 500-word election statement, along with details of three Fellows of the College who support your application. The nomination window closes at midday on 13 October.  A photograph will be required for the ballot materials, and we recommend that you include an optional two-page CV (please remove personal details such as home address, date of birth, or similar identifiers).

When is the ballot?

Ballot emails will be distributed on 19 November, and voting will close on 10 December. Newly elected members of Council will be admitted to their first Council meeting on 11 March 2026.

We embrace diversity in our specialty, so we encourage and welcome candidates from all backgrounds, perspectives, cultures and experiences to consider putting themselves forward for election.
