Postgraduate career
After graduation Una Campbell was, according to the 1943 Medical Directory, House Officer in surgery, Senior House Officer Physician and Resident Anaesthetist at the Royal Hospital in Sheffield. Next she was Resident Anaesthetist at the Neurological Unit, Royal Sheffield Infirmary and Hospital. She continued as Anaesthetist for this unit until her retirement about 1963, although her details in the Medical Directories were recorded under the name “Hardman” from 1955.

Other biographical information
Una Margaret Campbell’s father was a doctor, as was her brother James.
Dr Campbell married James Hardman, a Sheffield based Neurosurgeon in 1954, at the age of 45years. She was his second wife. Whether she had any children of her own has not been established. James Hardman had two children with his first wife who died in 1946. Presumably Una Margaret became their step-mother. James Hardman died in 1980; in his obituary available on the Royal College of Surgeons “Lives of Fellows” project website, Una is described as his anaesthetist. Una and her husband retired to Westoning, Bedfordshire. He predeceased her. James Hardman’s obituary mentions his interest in History of Medicine and extensive collection of medical history books; apparently Una helped with the collection of books. She died on 22 January 1986 in a Nursing Home, Tunbridge Wells (source probate record).
