After qualifying was house physician to the Professorial Medical Unit, United Bristol Hospitals and house surgeon at Southmead Hospital, Bristol before starting career in anaesthesia as SHO at United Bristol Hospitals. Thereafter all appointments were in Liverpool: registrar to the Regional Hospital Board; senior registrar to the Regional Hospital Board & United Liverpool Hospitals; and finally consultant at United Liverpool Hospitals, retiring in 1992.
Professional interests and activities
Obstetric anaesthesia and obstetric intensive care, setting up an epidural service with a colleague and training all the midwives. He was the anaesthetist involved in the management of the World’s first surviving all female sextuplets in 1983.
