In parallel Wishart produced ECG traces of chloroformed mice. In the 1970s he began publishing on high spinal block for large bowel surgery, and for control of blood loss in gynaecology – which was the subject of his Presidential Address to the Glasgow & West of Scotland Society of Anaesthetists. In the 1980s he published on spinal anaesthesia for repair of fractured neck of femur, and in general anaesthesia the use of low fresh gas flow with the circle breathing system – which he tirelessly promoted. He was President of the Scottish Society of Anaesthetists for 1984-85.
