Latest awards announced from the Nominations Committee

The College is delighted to announce details of awards from the September meeting of the Nominations Committee:

Professor Rupert Pearse has been awarded the College Medal for his work on the UK Perioperative Clinical Trials Network (CTN). Since its inception, Professor Pearse has grown the CTN membership, now consisting of 361 frontline staff, representing 290 hospitals, and covering all National Institute for Healthcare Research NIHR) local Clinical Research Networks.

The COVID-19 Hub website team has been awarded the Humphry Davy award, for their work during the pandemic. This team, with individuals from the College, the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, the Association of Anaesthetists and the Intensive Care Society, were the originators, prime movers and backbone of data for the COVID-19 Hub website which provided vital clinical and administrative information for anaesthetists and intensivists during the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

We have three Fellowship ad eundem awardees:

Dr Samyuktha Backe is a consultant anaesthetist and has been based at Wansbeck General Hospital in Northumberland since 2002. She has been a College Tutor and for nearly 10 years, she was the lead clinician in obstetric anaesthesia and also in audit work, designing a database tool to help in trainee assessment.

Dr Manish Adke is a consultant anaesthetist and has been based at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Rhyl since 2006. He is an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and is involved in departmental and regional teaching and training. He is also the perioperative lead in the hospital, overseeing the formation and implementation of patient pathways.

Dr Andrew McKechnie is a consultant anaesthetist and has been based at Lewisham and Greenwich Trust since 2016. He is the Trust Airway lead and combines his skills in airway management with a clinical interest in ENT and bariatrics. He is also a College Tutor, and continues to expand his involvement in medical education and pastoral support.
