Council 2023 Elections
Interested in standing for a place on College Council? Keep it in mind for next year.
Self-nominations for election to the Council of the Royal College of Anaesthetists opened on 25 September 2023 and closed on 19 October 2023 at 12 noon. Ballot voting has now opened and will close 14 December at 12 noon.
The vacancies were:
- 3 consultant vacancies: To be eligible for these vacancies you must be on the specialist register and a Fellow by Examination or a Fellow Ad Eundem
- 2 anaesthetists in training vacancies: To be eligible for these vacancies you must be a fellow in Training (UK) and (Overseas) or an Anaesthetist in Training
- 0 SAS vacancies: There are no SAS vacancies this year
Successful candidates will take up their positions in March 2024 for an initial six-year term if applying for a consultant vacancy and for a term of four years if applying for an anaesthetist in training vacancy.
Council is responsible for the professional aspects of the specialty of anaesthesia and includes discussion and decision on policy and professional issues, as well as fulfilling formal and ceremonial matters.
The primary purpose of standing for Council is to serve and actively contribute to the College, its strategic goals, the speciality, and your colleagues.
Joining Council provides you with an excellent opportunity to contribute to your College, influence our professional policy, and represent our Members at all stages of their working lives. We are keen to achieve a diverse and representative Council and welcome self-nominations from a wide range of eligible candidates.

Election Timetable

25 September 2023: Nominations open. The call for self-nominations will be publicised on the website, via social media and in the President’s eNewsletter. Nominations information will be collected via a web form.

19 October 2023 at 12 noon: Nominations close. All completed nominations must be received on the online platform by this date. Any nominations or supporting materials received after this date and time will not be accepted.

16 November 2023: Ballot emails distributed. Ballots will be sent electronically to the email address registered at the College. The ballot process will be managed and verified by election provider Mi-Voice.

14 December 2023 at 12 noon: Ballot closes. Ballots must be returned by 12 noon.

15 December 2023: Results announced. The election results will be declared via the College website as soon as possible following the ballot count. The results will also be published in the President’s eNewsletter and the Bulletin.

13 March 2024: New members will be admitted to their first Council meeting.
