Since the RCoA Environmental Advisory Group was appointed in 2023, we’ve been getting stuck into a wide range of activities to ensure environmental sustainability continues to play an important role across education, quality improvement, research, and policy making.
In the group, Dr Paul Southall, the Council lead for environmental sustainability, is supported by Drs Lucy Brooks, Li Fang, Helgi Johannsson and Mary Slingo. All of us are keen to do more than ‘pay lip service’ and to push stronger and faster action.
Undoubtedly, the College recognises the importance of responding to climate change and ecological degradation. It has committed to promoting greener anaesthetic practice and reducing its own environmental impact, as laid out in the Environmental Strategy (2024–2027). So, let’s delve into what we’ve been doing a little further.
