National Clinical Impact Awards (NCIA) 2025
The National Clinical Impact Awards (NCIA) for consultants in England and Wales are designed to recognise clinicians who lead the way in the provision and improvement of patient care, demonstrating national impact by going above and beyond their roles. Details and information can be found on the DHSC website.
- The 2025 NCIA Awards round will open on 1 April 2025
- The deadline for submitting applications is 5pm on 27 May 2025. The full timetable can be found here
- Applications should be made directly to ACCIA using the NCIA portal
Following changes in 2022/3, the Advisory Committee on Clinical Impact Awards (ACCIA) no longer requires citations from a Royal College as part of a submission. The College is able to provide advice to applicants (contact governance@rcoa.ac.uk) but is not permitted to edit submissions.
ACCIA had the following comments regarding the 2024 round:
- Success rates over the last three award rounds have been c.48%
- First-time applicants can receive any level of award, and in every round since 2022 they have had applicants with no prior national award getting a top level NCIA
- Applicants who work less than full-time receive the full award value, provided they work a minimum of 3 PAs
- The diversity of applicants and awardees is increasingly comparable with the consultant workforce as a whole, although they recognise more needs to be done
- Volunteering as a regional sub-committee member is an excellent way for prospective applicants to gain insights into what a good application looks like
