Professional life and career
Postgraduate career
Commissioned in the RAMC soon after qualifying, he served abroad and attained the rank of Captain. After the war he returned to house appointments at St Thomas’s, among them casualty officer and resident anaesthetist. In 1920 he went to Serbia as anaesthetist in a surgical mission to correct the results of inadequate wartime surgery and deal with a backlog of civilian patients, work which was long remembered there. He returned again to Thomas’s as senior resident anaesthetist for two years, followed by three years as resident medical officer to the hospital’s private wing, this post involving administration of anaesthetics and working with many leading surgeons. He was appointed honorary anaesthetist to the hospital in 1927, a post he held until retirement in 1946.
Professional interests and activities
Information about professional interests has not been found, and would be welcome. He was awarded the DA without examination in 1937.
Other biographical information
He married Margaret Farquhar, a member of the nursing staff, but no more is known.
