Early appointments included resident anaesthetist & casualty officer, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Was elected to the staff of the Royal Sussex County Hospital in 1926, the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in 1927, and Kind Edward VII Memorial Hospital in 1928. Carried significant workload during WW2 because other staff were in the services. Continued to work in the same hospitals after inception of the NHS, and no definitive retirement date has been identified.

Active in the BMA and served as president of its Section of Anaesthetics in 1956
