Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

After graduation Borland seems to have entered general practice in Glasgow and worked as an anesthetist for the Glasgow Corporation General Hospital. By 1936 he was appointed as an anaesthetist to the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow. In 1941 he was Lecturer in Anaesthetics to the E.M.S., Department of Health, Scotland, and in 1942 he was commissioned Lt. in the Royal Army Medical Corps. After demobilisation he continued to work as Visiting Anaesthetist to the Victoria Infirmary in Glasgow and Senior Anaesthetist at the Glasgow Corporation Hospitals until his retirement about 1967. 

Professional interests and activities

He was one of the 46 successful candidates in the very first examination for the Diploma in Anaesthetics held in November 1935. 

Other biographical information

On retirement he moved to live in Lancaster, but eventually returned to Glasgow, where he died at the age of 82 years.
