RCoA responds to BMA’s 'Caring, Supportive, Collaborative?' report
Responding to the British Medical Association’s new report, ‘Caring, Supportive, Collaborative?’ Professor Ravi Mahajan, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, said:
“The fact that these report findings will not be a surprise to NHS staff working across the country, is perhaps the most worrying thing about them.
“Today’s report shows that across the NHS, staff continue to deal with inadequate resources in an environment where they feel worried about being blamed for the pressure this creates.
“More than six in ten of anaesthetists in training have told us that their job had detrimentally affected their physical and mental health. An absence of basic facilities for staff to rest, get a hot drink or a decent meal is inexcusable when these same staff are delivering life-saving care under immense pressures.
“The development of the Long Term Plan for the NHS is an opportunity to make strategic investments that can advance the safety and quality of patient care. Investing in the staff that provide the care should be an essential part of a Long Term Plan.”
