Professor John Moore awarded College Gold Medal
We are delighted to announce that Professor John Moore has been awarded the Gold Medal. This is our highest and rarest award, given in recognition of sustained work for the College and the specialty.
Professor John Moore is an outstanding leader in perioperative medicine whose work has transformed clinical practice and improved patient outcomes at scale. Over more than a decade, he has been at the forefront of developing and embedding prehabilitation, pioneering a community-based model that brings together the NHS, social care, and voluntary sectors, now recognised as a blueprint for wider adoption.
His national and international reputation is reflected in influential roles with NICE, the Centre for Perioperative Care, and Macmillan Cancer, alongside senior leadership positions within his Trust and region. Awarded an honorary chair at the University of Manchester in 2025, he combines academic excellence with exceptional clinical and organisational leadership.
Professor Moore is widely admired as an innovator, leader, and compassionate colleague. His extraordinary contribution to perioperative care and his generosity of spirit make him richly deserving of recognition.
