Anaesthetic Assessors for MBRRACE-UK Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths

The College and Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association are seeking to appoint new anaesthetic and critical care assessors for the MBRRACE-UK Confidential Enquiries into Maternal Deaths. In the first instance we are seeking to appoint four national assessors (two anaesthetic, two critical care) to replace existing assessors who have come to the end of their term. The team of assessors is geographically representative of the four UK nations and regionally representative within England. It is anticipated that assessors will be expected to review 15-20 cases per year. The initial term for assessors will be three years, renewable for a further three years. It is anticipated that most work will be undertaken electronically and therefore travel will not be required, with the exception of travel to an annual training meeting, for which travel expenses will be provided. The position is otherwise not remunerated but assessment work may be considered as part of continuing professional development.

Applications will be considered by the OAA MBRRACE appointments committee who will make recommendations to the College.

The applicants will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Essential

  1. In good standing with the College (this includes holders of the FFICM).
  2. Recent active clinical practice.

Desirable

  1. Evidence of a contribution to and interest in national audit and research, e.g. previous work on the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths, UK Obstetric Surveillance System (UKOSS).
  2. Experience of confidential case review.
  3. Experience of committee work at a national level.
  4. Evidence of forging links within and outwith one's own professional group.
  5. Relevant specialist experience.
