An Anaesthesia Quality Improvement study day from the RCOA, suitable for all anaesthetists who would like to increase their knowledge in Quality Improvement and its context in the NHS of 2026

This will be an all-day event with sessions on Understanding complex systems, Measurement for QI and pursuing excellence in QI education and leadership, as well as keynote speakers updating on QI in action across the UK.

Pricing Terms and Conditions

Payment must be made at the time of booking unless otherwise stated. The RCoA, FICM and FPM are unable to hold places on events without payment. Credit or debit card payments must be made online via our card payment handler Stripe, or by phone. We do not accept purchase orders or raise invoices for places on our events. 

Discounts are available for some membership types at the rates stated below. You must be eligible for the discount both at the time of the booking and at the time of the event itself. We may ask for proof of your member status at any point. If you are unable to prove your entitlement to the discount we may charge you the full event rate, or invite you to update your membership status accordingly. In such a situation we may withhold access to the event until your updated payment clears, or your new membership status is confirmed.

Abstract Competition

Theme
You are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at the QI Study Day, on 10 September 2026. Winning entries will be selected to showcase their work to the audience in a quick-fire 5-minute oral presentation session or as an abstract for display.

The quality improvement project should be relevant to anaesthesia, perioperative medicine or intensive care. The shortlisted entries will be judged on their use and reporting of QI methodologies.

If you have worked on a project which falls into this category, please submit an abstract for a chance to showcase your work and to win a £50 voucher.

Eligibility

The competition is open to medical students, anaesthetists in training, SAS grade doctors and consultant anaesthetists.

Prize

1st prize (oral presentation): £50 voucher

1st prize (poster presentation): £25 voucher

The top ranked entries will be chosen to give a 5-minute quick-fire oral presentation on their project; other shortlisted entries will be invited to present a poster. The top entries will be announced at the end of this event.
Oral presenters will have free entry to the study day.

How to enter

  • Submit a digital copy of your abstract as an attachment to [email protected] along with a signed copy of the form here.
  • Please follow the preparation guidelines on page 2; failure to follow the guidelines could result in disqualification from the competition.

 

What happens next?

  • The closing date for entries will be 12:00 pm Friday 25th July 2026.
  • A panel of RCoA judges will assess all submissions shortly after the closing date. Authors will be notified as soon as possible if they have been invited to present or display their abstracts at the QI Study Day
  • The shortlisted presenters for the oral presentation prize will be given a slot to present their project during the live programme.
  • Authors selected to present their poster will need to book a place at the event in order to display their poster.
