This February, celebrate important moments in LGBTQ+ history
February is Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender Plus (LGBT+) History Month and the RCoA has planned a range of activities to help celebrate it. The College is committed to advocating for equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within anaesthesia, pain medicine and intensive care and this month kick starts our 2022 EDI activities.
Activity planned for February includes the lighting up of Churchill House in iconic rainbow flag colours, the symbol of LGBTQ+ pride. This moment will signify our support of gay and related civil rights issues across the world. Throughout February, the email signatures of all RCoA staff will also reflect rainbow flag colours and the RCoA social media profiles will change as a mark of solidarity.
LGBT+ History Month remembers the rich history of the LGBTQ+ community and RCoA members and staff will be treated to a series of facts about LGBTQ+ history across the month as well as a video made by College staff to be shared on social media discussing important moments in the history of gender identity and sexual orientation.
Jonathan Brüün, RCoA Chief Executive Officer said:
“LGBT+ History Month is an important moment in the College’s calendar where we make time to recognise and celebrate the diversity of RCoA staff and our Fellows and Members. The history of gender identity and sexual orientation has a rich and varied narrative which spans all of society, and I’m pleased that as a College we have some fun, yet informative activities planned to help engage our staff and our membership.”
We would love to see what your hospital or trust are doing to recognise the month so remember to tag @RCoANews and/or @RCoAPresident into anything you would like to share.
