Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

After qualifying Dorman was Resident  Anaesthetist  and  House Surgeon at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Plymouth followed by Resident Anaesthetist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. In October 1942 he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as a Lt. By the time of his demobilisation in 1947 he had attained the rank of Major (Specialist Anaesthetist). He was then appointed Hon. Anaesthetist at Benn Ulster Ear, Eye, Nose & Throat Hospital, and Anaesthetics Registrar at Belfast City Hospital – promoted by 1950 to Visiting Anaesthetist at the latter. In 1952 he was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist at the same hospitals. From 1964 he had sessions at Musgrave Park Hospital and later at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast, until his retirement in 1977.

Professional interests and activities

He was a member of the British Medical Association and the Ulster Medical Society. 

Other biographical information

He married Eileen Brown in 1941 in Belfast. In retirement he lived at Sketrick Island, Killinchy, County Down where (predeceased by his wife in 2009) he died at the age of 96 years.
