Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

After qualifying in January 1943 Anderson undertook house jobs at the Royal Infirmary in Sheffield. In August 1943 he was commissioned Lt. in the Royal Army Medical Corps and was attached to 2nd Batt. Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, 15th Scottish Division. Promoted to Capt. before demobilisation in 1946, he then returned to house jobs at Sheffield Royal Infirmary, where in 1947 he was appointed as a clinical assistant in anaesthesia. In 1949 he was appointed Registrar in Anaesthetics at the Royal Infirmary and Children’s Hospital in Sheffield, followed by Senior Registrar at United Sheffield Hospitals. By 1951 he was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist to Victoria Hospital in Worksop, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Wharncliffe Hospital in Sheffield. After ten years in this post, he moved to be a Consultant Anaesthetist at the Farnham Hospital Group in Surrey, in which post he remained until his retirement in 1986. 
 

Professional interests and activities

He was a member of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland.

Other biographical information

He died in Bristol at the age of 86 years.
