Professional interests and activities

A skilled clinician, able to administer both chloroform and ether, he never seemed to be in a hurry, and faced any situation with calmness. After appointment to St Mary’s he took a great interest in all student activities.

Other biographical information

Married to Mary, they had one son, and were known for their hospitality, a regular Christmas Day champagne party seems to have been particularity notable. A great sportsman in his youth, he played rugby for both his Cambridge college and hospital; winter Saturdays were split between mornings in private practice, and afternoons encouraging (although sometimes loudly criticising) the hospital rugby team in the afternoon.
