Biography

Dr Simon Maguire qualified from Manchester University in 1993 and did his anaesthesia training in the UK and New Zealand. He was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist at Wythenshawe Hospital in 2002 and served as College Tutor for 6 years. He has always been passionate about training and went on to the roles of TPD, Deputy RAA and now RAA for the North West. He became one of the RCOA Lead RAAs in 2021.

Simon’s clinical interests are in Obstetric anaesthesia as well as anesthesia for major burns and plastic reconstructive surgery. He has written a number of books for the Primary and Final FRCA.

Outside of medicine, he has a busy family life and tries to stay fit, pretending he can remain competitive in squash.
