Professional life and career
Postgraduate career
After graduation Grabowsky-Atherstone undertook house jobs at Mt. Vernon Hospital, followed by resident anaesthetist at the Middlesex Hospital. In 1950 he was appointed as a senior anaesthetist at RAF Hospital Ely, followed by Senior Registrar in Anaesthetics at Central Middlesex Hospital. He had a further Senior Registrar post in 1951 at the London Hospital in Whitechapel, where he was promoted to 1st Assistant Anaesthetist the following year. In 1953 he was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist to the London Chest Hospital. He continued in this post until his retirement in 1983. Within that 30 year period he also undertook sessions at King George Hospital Ilford, Brentwood District Hospital, Harefield Hospital Thoracic Unit, and finally St Mark’s Hospital London.
Professional interests and activities
In the 1960s he published five papers on the Melrose heart lung machine.
Other biographical information
At the age of 6, he moved with his parents from Australia to England. He married Doris Burrell in 1949 and they had a son and a daughter. For most of his adult life he was a member of the Royal Photographic Society. In retirement he lived in Suffolk until his death at the age of 77, survived by his family.
