Professional life and career

Postgraduate career

After qualifying Clayton undertook house jobs at the Royal Surrey Co. Hospital, Guildford. In July 1941 he joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in which he served until 1946. After demobilisation he specialised in anaesthetics and was appointed Consultant Anaesthetist to the Aylesbury and High Wycombe Hospitals. He remained in this post until his retirement in 1984.  

Professional interests and activities

He was a member of the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland. At Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury he designed a multipurpose angle piece with expiratory valve. 

Other biographical information

He married Helena Jones SRN in 1941. Predeceased by his wife, he died in Aylesbury at the age of 68 years
