RCoA appoints Jonathan Brüün as new Chief Executive

The College is pleased to confirm the appointment of Jonathan Brüün as its new Chief Executive, joining January 2020.

Jonathan is currently the Chief Executive of the British Pharmacological Society (BPS) where he has been responsible for their substantial growth in performance and impact. Under Jonathan’s leadership, BPS membership has risen by over 20 per cent, while diversification of the Society’s business portfolio has seen annual revenues also grow.

Jonathan joined the BPS in 2009 as Head and then as Director of Communications. He was appointed CEO in June 2012 and has been responsible for delivering the vision, mission and strategy of BPS and its subsidiary companies. BPS represents over 4,000 members studying and working on drug discovery, development and delivery in industrial, academic and clinical sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Jonathan said: “I am pleased and excited to be joining such a large and progressive medical royal college. I look forward to engaging with the College’s Council, volunteers and staff to enhance the support and services provided to RCoA’s 22,500 members – all of whom work within the largest single hospital specialty in the NHS.”

Professor Ravi Mahajan, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists said: “I sincerely look forward to welcoming Jonathan to our College as our new CEO. His experience of successfully managing a growing charitable membership body will benefit both our members and the College staff.

“I would like to thank Sharon Drake who will continue to hold the position of Interim Chief Executive until Jonathan joins us in January.”
