Mark retired from the police service in 2018 after 30 years; as a member of the criminal investigation department, the majority of his service was spent performing the role of senior investigating officer with homicide and more latterly, ten years operating within the UK Counter Terrorism network.  He also spent many years performing the role of hostage and crisis negotiator, resolving critical incidents of kidnap and extortion both in the UK and overseas.  Mark is currently a Lay Chair of the General Optical Council’s Education Visitor Panel, a regulatory role within optical healthcare providing public assurance in safe and effective practice.  He is also a dedicated Listening Volunteer with the Samaritans charitable organisation, a compulsive reader with a passion for literature, a lover of music and enthusiastic fly-fisherman.
