Biography

Richard Marks went to Westminster Medical School. He chose a career in anaesthetics because the speciality offered the opportunity to play with  computers and hi-tech equipment and to undertake all the exciting parts of medicine and surgery. He trained in London, spent a year as Visiting Professor at Duke University, NC USA and was appointed as a Consultant in 1991.

He has been involved in training and recruitment, and held the posts of College Tutor, Training Programme Director and Deputy Regional Advisor. He chaired the RCoA Recruitment Committee and was involved in several DH projects concerning recruitment into anaesthesia. He recognises the great importance of ensuring the welfare of anaesthetists, and represented the College on the AAGBI Career and Wellbeing Committee.

He chaired the RCoA Revalidation Committee and CPD Board, and was responsible for developing the current CPD Guidance and organising a multi-centre project looking at Patient Feedback. He has also revitalised SAS and Career Grade involvement with College activities.

Richard has been involved with computers since he was at school. He was project lead for the redesign of the RCoA Website, and has designed two other websites.
