Completion of the MFR form helps in all discussions regarding the College’s workforce planning for anaesthetists
Allocation of SPA time for consultants
- The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges has issued a supporting statement for appropriate allocation of SPA time for consultants.
- A statement from the AAGBI and the RCoA appeared in the February 2010 edition of Anaesthesia News.
- An article appeared in the July 2012 issue of the College Bulletin: Supporting Professional Activity - a cause of confusion.
Short notice AAC advice
Primarily used as a College internal process document which may be useful to NHS Trusts, Foundation Trusts and Treatment Centres' HR Departments for recruitment requirements.
The National Health Service (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations (January 2005)
This guidance is for use by NHS Trusts, Primary Care Trusts and Strategic Health Authorities when making appointments to consultant posts. It provides good practice guidance on the NHS (Appointment of Consultants) Regulations 1996 (Statutory Instruments 2004 No.3365), as amended. The 1996 Regulations and subsequent amendments do not apply to NHS Foundation Trusts although they can follow this guidance when appointing to a consultant post if they so choose. Please be aware that both the regulations and the Good Practice Guidance apply to England only.
Advice for SAS/Specialty Dcotor posts
- The RCoA believes that many non-consultant career grade anaesthetists will apply for regrading to Associate Specialist. As this process involves a formal interview with an external College Assessor as one of the members of the panel, you may well be asked to represent the College on such committees. Foundation Trust status
In addition to the services from Colleges and Faculties as detailed; this College further assists Trusts by confirming individual and appropriately specialised assessors for each appointment, rather than just forwarding a list of potential assessors.
