Anaesthesia-related Professionals

In 2011 the Physicians’ Assistant (Anaesthesia) Committee metamorphosed into the Anaesthesia Related Professionals Committee with the inclusion of advanced critical care practitioners (ACCPs) into its remit. ACCPs are a relatively new sort of practitioner and as with the physicians’ assistant (anaesthesia) (PA[A]s) are a result of the Department of Health New Ways of Working Programme.

Key objectives

  • Support PA(A)s in their aim towards regulation by HPC.
  • Review and update PA(A) curriculum.
  • Work with the Clinical lead for PA(A)s and the lead HEI to enhance and  promote the role.
  • Work with AAGBI to review current work patterns of PA(A)s and their effects on the service and medical training.
  • Work with lead clinician for ACCPs and the training providers to harmonise ACCP training with the aim of producing nationally recognised practitioners.
